To begin with this section, I’ve chosen to give you my personal recipe to make a batch of homemade protein bars. They’re a great snack and you them to be delicious, healthy, cheap and – most important – nutritious. Now here’s the problem with the protein bars you buy in stores: they’re expensive and loaded with sugar.
Let’s get
to work:
- Ingredients:
- Oats (300g)
- Unflavored whey (50g)
- All-natural peanut butter (30g)
- 3 egg whites
- 2 (or 3, depending on their size) apples pure
- Low-fat cocoa powder (20g)
- Honey (20g or 1tbsp)
- Preparation:
- Well, it’s not hard to guess how you prepare this recipe: mix all the ingredients (dry ones go first)
- Pour the mixture into a tray having the desired dimensions and put it in the oven (pre-heat it 1st) at 200ºC for 15 minutes.
- Results:
- After taking it out of the oven, cut the “cake” into equal pieces (you should get 8 bars with each one weighing around 80g)
- I couldn’t resist and the “corners” were gone: in the end, only 7 bars remained :)
- Here I’ve already wrapped the bars in aluminum foil and they’re ready to go to the fridge. Since we are using 3 egg whites be careful with their expiration date. I usually eat them within a week after cooking and I’m still here, breathing
- Nutritional value and price
- Each protein bar weighs around 80g (mine weighed 83g) and a cost of only 0.32€!
